Today the cultivated landscape around Moss is one of the most complete and beautiful areas in the country. Few, if any, can compete in quality to the areas surrounding the city of Moss, with the country's capital and neighbouring Sweden just an hour's drive away. The E6 highway, the Moss international airport Rygge, railways, busses and ferries make the area one of the country's major hubs. We've got the fjord and lakes, forests and open landscape, we've got cities and villages surrounded by large open spaces. The flora is magnificent, with parks and gardens, the likes of which you will only find in more southern latitudes

Sarpsfossen Waterfall has been the towns trademark for almost 1000 years. In 1016, St. Olav sailed up the river and founded the town Borg by the waterfall. He built the royal farm, as well as the church and ramparts, and resided there for several years. In 1567, the town was burned to the ground and moved south to the end of the river, but one hundred years later there was already plenty of activity on both sides of the waterfall. Hafslund Mansion stands there as a monument to this periode. In 1839, Sarpsborg was once again awarded town status, and fi fty years later large-scale industry put in an appearance when Borregard became one of the largest industrial groups in the world within the space of only a few years. Today, Sarpsborg is a town steeped in history and culture offering everything from ancient rock carvings to thriving musical and artistic events.
